Can we make Mango Lassi? asked my students. As I was teaching a smoothie and a cooking class this winter, one recipe my students wanted to make again and again was mango lassi. It is such a simple but full-of-flavors recipe, I decided to post it because of all the love and appreciation it has received. now what is lassi?
Lassi is a traditional South Asian drink, particularly popular in India and Pakistan. It is made by blending yogurt with water, spices, and sometimes fruits or mint. There are two main types of lassi: sweet lassi and salty lassi. Sweet lassi is flavored with sugar, fruits, or rosewater, while salty lassi contains salt and spices like cumin. Lassi has a smooth and creamy texture and it is served chilled especially in hot weather. Mango lassi as the name suggests, is a mango flavored yogurt based drink.

Ingredients for Mango Lassi
Mango
For this mango lassi recipe, I used mango pulp but you can use fresh or frozen mango chunks as well. If mangoes are sour you will need more sugar. Mango pulp can be easily found in Pakistani or Indian grocery stores.
Yogurt
I used plain yogurt but Greek yogurt works perfectly as well. Greek yogurt gives a more creamy and smooth texture while regular yogurt is a little sour. Both types bring their unique characteristics to the table, allowing you to tailor the recipe to your liking. So, whether you opt for the classic appeal of regular yogurt or the decadent richness of Greek yogurt, you can rest assured that your dish will turn out just the way you envisioned it.
Sugar
I used 2 tbsp of sugar, but you can also use honey. Adjust the quantity according to your preference and it also depends on the sweetness of the mango chunks or pulp you are using.
Milk
For this recipe, I used full-fat milk but you can also use coconut or soy milk if you prefer. You can choose the type of milk according to your personal preferences and dietary restrictions. It’s important to consider the impact of your choice on the overall taste and texture of the final dish. The type of milk used can truly make a difference in the overall taste of the drink.
How to serve mango lassi
Mango lassi tastes best when it is cold. You can also add nuts of your choice and even mango chunks. Mango lassi is a great morning smoothie and can be served to guests. Adults and kids are equally going to like it.
How to store mango lassi
Mango lassi can stay in the refrigerator for up to two days. Even though it is a quick drink if you wish you can make it in advance and leave it in the fridge and enjoy it for breakfast or as a sweet treat after dinner. Sometimes I like to freeze it to enjoy a frozen delight in summer.
