What goes into Garlic and Jalapeño Steak Bites
Steak
You need a good-quality steak. I used two 4 oz. rib-eye steaks. You can use filet mignon or sirloin steak.
Filet mignon takes the least amount of time to cook, but you can also use ribeye (as I did) and sirloin as well.
Spices and herbs
Steak bites only need two spices, which are salt and pepper. For herbs, you can use oregano or thyme. Personally, I like fresh or dried thyme.
Garlic
You need lots of fresh garlic for this recipe. Peel and chop the garlic and add it to the steak toward the end of the cooking process, as it will burn easily.
Butter
You’ll need butter to cook the steak because everything is better with butter.
Jalapeño
For my desi palate, I needed to spice up the steak bites, for which I used jalapeño. Add jalapeño toward the end as well.
Potatoes
You can always make steak bites without any potatoes, but I like these crispy potatoes along with the steak. I washed and cut the potatoes into thin 1-inch cubes so they can cook faster. Once the steak bites are done, take them out, cover, and leave them to rest, while in the same pan add potatoes with more salt and pepper and cook until the potatoes are soft.

Cooking time for Steak Bites
Cooking time varies for different cuts of beef. In my opinion, the best method to cook softer beef parts such as rib-eye, NY steak, or filet mignon is searing on very high heat. I use a cast iron skillet and heat it up until it is very hot. You can also use a stainless steel pan. Add oil to the pan once it starts to flow around easily, then add in your steak (it should sizzle). Let the steak cook on one side for 1.5 minutes on high heat before you turn it around to cook the other side.
Let it cook for a total of 5 minutes, but not more than that. Mix the steak every 1.5 to 1 minute to make sure all of the sides are cooked evenly.
How to serve steak bites?
I didn’t make any other sides besides the potatoes to serve these bites. You can make mashed potatoes or a potato salad to go along. These jalapeño and garlic steak bites were delicious and made a perfect dinner.
